Tattoo aftercare

Tattoo aftercare is crucial to ensure the longevity and vibrancy of your new ink. After getting a tattoo, it is essential to follow a few simple steps to promote proper healing and prevent any complications.

•If your tattoo artist applyed Tegaderm (second skin sticker foil), then Leave Tegaderm on for 4-6 days. Tegaderm creates a protective barrier over the tattoo, allowing it to heal without being exposed to external elements. The body going to spit out some fluids such as blood and ink and plasma, so it's going to look messy under the foil those first days. Don't panic, that's the way it should be. Just don't do anything with it. While Tegaderm is waterproof, it is still important to avoid excessive moisture during the healing process.Avoid swimming, hot tubs, saunas, or any activities that may cause excessive sweating. You are allowed to take a quick shower though.

•Remove Tegaderm gently: When it's time to remove Tegaderm, do it slowly and gently. Start from one corner and peel it back slowly, following the direction of hair growth. If it feels stuck, you can use warm water to help loosen the adhesive.

(If your tattoo artist didn't applied the Tegaderm sticker foil, then you start the healing from here.)⬇️

•Firstly, keep your tattoo clean and dry. Gently wash the area with a mild, parfume-free soap (Lactacyd) and lukewarm water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or scrubbing the tattoo vigorously, as this can irritate the skin and hinder the healing process. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or let it air dry.

•Next, apply a thin layer of a recommended tattoo aftercare ointment (Bepanthen). You can find at any pharmacy. This product help keep the tattoo moisturized, preventing it from drying out and forming scabs. Be sure to use only a small amount, as excessive application can clog pores and delay healing. You should apply the cream for two weeks time.

•Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, or saunas during the healing process. UV rays can fade the colors and chlorine or other chemicals can irritate the skin. Additionally, refrain from picking or scratching at the tattoo, as this can lead to infection and damage the artwork.

•Wear loose, breathable clothing over your tattoo to allow proper airflow and minimize friction. Tight clothing can rub against the tattoo, causing irritation and potentially affecting the healing process.

•Lastly, maintain a healthy lifestyle to support the healing of your tattoo. Stay hydrated, eat nutritious foods, and avoid sweating (training, sauna, sunbathing), as these factors can impact the healing process and the overall appearance of your tattoo.

By following these simple aftercare guidelines, you can ensure that your tattoo heals properly, retains its vibrant colors, and remains a beautiful piece of art for years to come. Remember, proper aftercare is essential in preserving the quality and longevity of your tattoo.

If anything of these isn't clear then speak to your local tattoo artist for further help.
